BBL 2026–27 squads and contracted players

Cricket Australia’s current BBL|16 tracker lists 79 contracted players across the eight clubs. The team cards below include only those confirmed 2026–27 contracts at the 17 August cutoff; they are developing lists, not final 18-player squads or proof that a player will appear in a match.

79 confirmed contracts

Are the full BBL|16 squads available?

No. The official tracker records 79 current contracts: 10 each for Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder; nine each for Melbourne Renegades and Perth; and 11 for Sydney Sixers.

BBL squads can contain 18 players, so these cards are an off-season list snapshot rather than eight finished rosters. Uncontracted BBL|15 players, retirees and possible future overseas signings are not added to make the lists look complete.

Contracts, not a predicted XI

Why do the BBL squad sizes differ by team?

Clubs entered the player-movement period with different numbers already contracted. The current official snapshot therefore ranges from nine players at the Renegades and Scorchers to 11 at the Sixers.

A contract confirms a place on the BBL|16 list at this cutoff; it does not confirm match availability or a starting XI. Likewise, appearing in BBL|15 does not preserve a place after that contract expires.

Two confirmed arrivals

Which players changed BBL teams for 2026–27?

Sydney Sixers added Ollie Davies from Sydney Thunder on a three-season deal and Fergus O’Neill from Melbourne Renegades on a two-season deal. They are included only in the Sixers card, preventing the same current contract from appearing for two clubs.

The tracker reports no other completed move in that second post-season window. Rumoured targets and players merely eligible for free agency remain outside the confirmed lists.

Direct overseas contracts

Which overseas players are confirmed for BBL|16?

Sam Billings is the only direct overseas player shown as already contracted for BBL|16 in Cricket Australia’s current tracker. His existing Sydney Thunder deal runs through this season.

Overseas players whose earlier deals expired are listed by the source as uncontracted and are not silently retained here. Future direct signings or other official recruitment will be added only after a dated announcement.

All eight head coaches named

Who are the BBL|16 head coaches?

Tim Paine leads Adelaide Strikers, James Hopes Brisbane Heat, Jeff Vaughan Hobart Hurricanes and Luke Ronchi Melbourne Renegades. Cameron White leads Melbourne Stars, Adam Voges Perth Scorchers, Matthew Mott Sydney Sixers and Andrew Flintoff Sydney Thunder.

The tracker separates coaching appointments from player contracts. A coach is not counted in the 79-player total, and a captain label is withheld where a current BBL|16 appointment is not established by the reviewed sources.

Current-list update rule

How will the BBL 2026–27 squads be updated?

A new player enters a team card only when Cricket Australia or the club confirms the BBL|16 contract. The affected team count, 79-player total, source date and any movement note must change together.

Later replacements and availability changes will keep their own dates and labels. Squad membership will not be used as proof that a player appeared in a match or remained available for the full season.
