What changed for Colombo Kaps and Jaffna Kings?
Colombo's change was on-field leadership. Kusal Mendis captained the first two matches, then a hamstring injury led to Kamindu Mendis taking charge for the remaining league games and both playoffs.
Jaffna's change was operational. IPG and Sri Lanka Cricket assumed control after the Sports Commune agreement ended, but the official notice explicitly preserved the Kings name, squad and schedule. It did not create a new team or erase the matches already played.

Which performances reset the LPL 2026 records?
Lahiru Udara's unbeaten 132 was the highest individual innings and drove Kandy's chase of 209. Kamil Mishara supplied the other hundred with 108 not out in Qualifier 1, where Jaffna's 242/2 became the season's highest team total.
Dushmantha Chameera's 5/55 was the only five-wicket innings, although Dambulla lost that match. The final aggregates tell a different story from one-match peaks: Udara led the run list with 434, while champion Galle's Eshan Malinga led the wicket list with 17.
Four matches at R. Premadasa Stadium
How did the LPL 2026 playoffs unfold?
Jaffna used Qualifier 1 to reach the Final directly. Colombo removed Kandy in the Eliminator, but Galle beat Colombo in Qualifier 2 and returned for a third season meeting with Jaffna.
The title match reversed the scoring pattern from Qualifier 1. Jaffna fell from 242/2 to 123 all out, and Galle completed a controlled chase before the end of the 16th over.
| Stage | Winner | Opponent | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Qualifier 1 | Jaffna Kings | Galle Gallants | 14 runs |
| Eliminator | Colombo Kaps | Kandy Royals | 68 runs |
| Qualifier 2 | Galle Gallants | Colombo Kaps | 6 wickets |
| Final | Galle Gallants | Jaffna Kings | 5 wickets |
Second in the table, first after the Final
Why are Jaffna league leaders but Galle champions?
Jaffna's 5–2–1 record earned 11 points and first place after the 20 league matches. Galle's 5–3 record earned 10 points and second place. Those rows determine playoff entry and remain the final league table.
The championship was decided separately in the knockout phase. Galle lost Qualifier 1, used the second chance attached to a top-two finish, won Qualifier 2 and then beat Jaffna in the Final. Calling Galle champions does not rewrite Jaffna's first-place table row.
