MLC 2026 at a glance
The six franchises were Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, Texas Super Kings and Washington Freedom. Each team played ten league matches, creating 30 regular-season games, followed by four playoff matches for a 34-match total. Washington topped the published league table with 16 points from ten games. Texas and San Francisco each had 14, while MI New York and Seattle had six and Los Angeles had four in the table displayed near the end of the regular phase. Qualification and seeding follow official competition rules and results, so points alone should be read with net run rate and the completed match record. The playoff system gave the leading sides different routes, while Los Angeles reached the title game despite a difficult league record by winning at the decisive stage. A season review can explain that contrast without treating one knockout run as proof of future dominance.
The six teams and competition format
Grand Prairie opened the season on 18 June with Texas Super Kings against Seattle Orcas. The first Texas block lasted four days before the competition moved west. MLC then returned to Grand Prairie after the Pomona leg for another five days of regular-season play. The stadium outside Dallas remains the clearest established cricket base among the three 2026 grounds, giving Texas Super Kings a local-market setting and the league a purpose-built venue. The fixture page lists local Central Time for its Texas games, while Oakland and Pomona use Pacific Time. A national audience should not compare the displayed clock values without the time zone. The schedule’s movement also meant teams crossed two U.S. time zones during a one-month tournament. Travel, recovery and weather form part of the competitive context, but the article should not claim they caused a result unless a team or official report makes that link.
Grand Prairie opened the season
Oakland Coliseum’s role expanded in 2026. The regular-season stand began on 24 June with San Francisco Unicorns against Texas Super Kings. The stadium then welcomed the playoff phase from 15 July and staged the final on 18 July. MLC described this as its first West Coast playoff finish. A large multi-use stadium presents a different setting from a dedicated cricket ground, and temporary cricket infrastructure may include a drop-in surface and adjusted field configuration. Exact operational claims should come from the venue or league rather than assumption. For the San Francisco identity, Oakland also provides a Northern California home-market connection. The season-ending crowd gave MLC a public attendance milestone, but attendance figures need attribution: the league’s later review reported 10,693 rather than relying on the rounded “11,000” used in the immediate match report.
Oakland became a regular-season and playoff home
Knight Riders Cricket Ground at Fairplex in Pomona hosted a five-day block from 1 July. MLC framed it as Los Angeles Knight Riders’ first set of games in their home market and identified the site as the future Olympic cricket venue for 2028. The Olympic link increases the ground’s public significance, yet MLC and LA28 are separate competitions with separate operations. A successful franchise match does not confirm Olympic ticketing, capacity, transport or field configuration. The venue’s 2026 purpose was clear: it gave Southern California spectators local professional T20 cricket and expanded the league beyond Texas and Northern California. Los Angeles’ eventual title makes the home-market debut part of a larger season narrative, but the team did not win every Pomona game. MI New York, for example, beat LA Knight Riders there by six wickets on 4 July according to MLC’s official report.
Pomona gave Los Angeles its first home-market leg
Washington Freedom finished first in the league standings, followed by Texas Super Kings and San Francisco Unicorns on the published table. The postseason reports show Los Angeles Knight Riders defeating San Francisco by seven runs on 15 July to book a final place. Washington then beat San Francisco by seven runs on 16 July to take the other place after a high-scoring contest. The bracket’s exact labels should follow the official fixture list, but the decisive point is that league position and playoff survival were separate tests. Los Angeles entered the final in their first title appearance after four seasons. Washington pursued a second championship after its 2024 success. A review should not call every postseason game a semifinal because MLC’s qualification structure assigns distinct routes. The official match pages remain the source for the bracket, scorecards and any corrected result.
How the playoff race finished
Washington won the toss and chose to bowl in the 18 July final. Los Angeles made 164 all out in 19.4 overs, built around Andre Fletcher’s 47, Colin Munro’s 40 and Matthew Tromp’s 39. Ben Dwarshuis took three for 31, while Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell Owen claimed two wickets each. Washington’s chase lost Mitchell Owen, Steven Smith and Ravindra to Sunil Narine inside the powerplay. Andries Gous and Nikhil Chaudhary rebuilt with a 66-run stand, then Obus Pienaar struck 53 from 24 balls. Washington needed 14 from the last over. Shadley van Schalkwyk removed Pienaar and Ian Holland, and Lahiru Milantha was run out trying to complete a second run from the last ball. Freedom finished 163 for nine. Narine’s three for 13 earned the official Player of the Final award.
A last-ball final at Oakland Coliseum
The one-run margin gave LA Knight Riders their first championship and ended Washington’s attempt to add a second. MLC’s later summary records the exact final attendance as 10,693 and describes it as a league record. The final score should stay attached to both innings and the result sentence: Los Angeles 164 beat Washington 163 for nine by one run. A rounded crowd estimate or compressed social post can support discovery, but the final season release provides the more precise historical record. The championship also demonstrates why a completed page needs a stable canonical URL. A live page should not disappear after the source leaves its current-match window. StumpScope’s publication store can retain the result and last reliable innings snapshot, while the official MLC report remains the authority for corrections and awards.
Season records and American-player contributions
MLC’s season review reports two hat-tricks, nine centuries, a league-record individual innings, a record T20 successful chase, the first T20 match with three individual centuries and 51 sixes in one game. It also says Faf du Plessis became the first player to pass 1,000 MLC runs, Kieron Pollard reached the most runs in men’s T20 cricket and 1,000 career sixes, and Sunil Narine and Andre Russell each played a 600th career T20 match. Andries Gous led the 2026 league with 547 runs and 36 sixes according to the same release. These claims carry MLC attribution because cross-competition “record” language can depend on the statistical database and definition used. The review also names USA internationals who contributed across the teams, connecting franchise opportunities with the domestic player pathway without claiming that one season settles the national team’s development.
Official broadcast coverage by territory
MLC’s 18 June viewing announcement lists Willow TV and Willow by Cricbuzz for the United States and Canada, with regional carriage for selected team games through YES Network, FOX 13 and NBC Bay Area. It lists Sky Sports for the United Kingdom and Ireland, 7plus for Australia, Star Sports and JioHotstar for India or the Indian subcontinent, Sky NZ for New Zealand, and several regional YouTube or Cricbuzz TV arrangements. Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan were grouped under MLC Network YouTube in that notice. Rights varied across Central Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa. This is a dated 2026 distribution map. It should not be extended to later seasons or a country omitted from the announcement. Provider schedules and account terms decide whether a particular viewer can watch.
What the season proves and what remains open
The 2026 season established three concrete changes: a Los Angeles home-market leg, West Coast playoffs and a first title for LA Knight Riders. It does not prove permanent venue tenure, profitability, future expansion or an automatic audience increase. MLC’s own release describes commercial and broadcast growth, while independent financial conclusions would need contracts and audited data that are not public in the source set. StumpScope can report the fixture footprint, scores, official attendance and named distribution partners. It should label analysis as analysis and keep LA28 operational claims separate. Score coverage also depends on a supported source mapping and data rights. A completed summary can remain public without pretending that every ball, player image or commentary line is available for unrestricted reuse.
