Team overview

Welsh Fire at a glance

Welsh Fire represent Cardiff and Wales in The Hundred. The women's and men's teams share one franchise identity and home ground, but their squads, standings, results and player statistics are recorded separately.

Glamorgan's published 2025 material says the county owns 50% of the franchise. Its partnership with Washington Freedom connects Welsh Fire to a second league organisation, while Welsh Fire themselves continue to compete only in The Hundred.

Both Welsh Fire sides finished 4–4 and fifth in their separate tables, so neither reached the Eliminator. The women ended on 16 points with a +0.133 net run rate; the men also had 16 points but a -0.900 net run rate.

Same record, separate tables

Did identical 4–4 records give Welsh Fire Women and Men the same season?

No. Both finished fifth on 16 points, but the women recorded a +0.133 net run rate and the men -0.900.

The women's last-match 15-run win over London Spirit produced a winning finish; the men lost their last four matches after starting 4–1.

The shared record is a coincidence across separate competitions, not one combined standing.

Qualification edge case

Why did four wins not put either Welsh Fire side in the Eliminator?

Only the top three teams in each table advanced. Welsh Fire Women finished two places below third, while the men lost a 20-point tie-break race before ending on 16.

Four wins can be enough in another season or table shape, but it was not enough in either 2026 competition.

Qualification depends on the full table and tie-breaks, not a fixed win threshold.

Myth versus mid-season form

Did the men's 4–1 start make qualification likely to be automatic?

No. Welsh Fire Men won four of their first five matches, then lost to Manchester, SunRisers Leeds and London Spirit to finish 4–4.

The 71-run Headingley defeat materially damaged net run rate before the six-run final loss.

A strong five-match snapshot did not protect the side from the final table because all eight group matches counted.

Joint wicket lead

Why does Grace Potts lead the women's bowling card when Heather Graham also took 11 wickets?

Both took 11 wickets. Potts conceded 165 runs across her bowling entries, compared with Graham's 183, so the card places Potts first while preserving the joint total.

This is a display ordering, not a claim that Potts took more wickets.

The page states joint leadership so readers are not misled by a single featured card.

Ownership boundary

Does the Washington Freedom partnership make Welsh Fire an MLC team?

No. Welsh Fire remain a Hundred franchise with women's and men's sides based at Sophia Gardens.

The Washington Freedom relationship concerns the current ownership partnership; it does not transfer MLC results, players or titles into Welsh Fire's record.

Competition membership and investor identity are separate data fields and stay separate on this page.
