Team overview
Southern Brave at a glance
Southern Brave represent the South Coast in The Hundred. The women's and men's sides have separate squads, tables and statistics but share the same identity, ownership operation and Utilita Bowl home.
The TeamCo structure assigns the host side a 51% stake and GMR Group 49%. GMR also owns Hampshire Sport & Leisure Holdings, the parent operation behind Hampshire Cricket and Utilita Bowl, but the published Southern Brave transaction itself is recorded as a 49% GMR franchise stake.
Southern Brave Women finished third at 5–3 with 20 points, then made 114/7 and lost the 14 August Eliminator to SunRisers Leeds by five wickets. The men beat table-leading Trent Rockets in their final match but finished sixth at 3–5. Laura Wolvaardt and Tristan Stubbs led the group-stage runs; Tilly Corteen-Coleman and Adil Rashid led the group-stage wickets.
Qualification edge case
How did Southern Brave Women qualify after losing their last group match?
Five earlier wins had already built 20 points, enough for third place after the full table closed. The final three-wicket loss to Trent Rockets did not erase those points.
SunRisers Leeds also finished 5–3 but took the higher Eliminator position on net run rate. Southern Brave therefore qualified as the third-place side and met SunRisers at The Kia Oval on 14 August.
Qualification depends on the complete table, not the direction of the most recent result. A team can lose late and still advance if its accumulated points remain inside the cutoff.
Men's table boundary
Did beating the men's table leaders put Southern Brave into the knockouts?
No. The six-wicket win over Trent Rockets improved the men's record to 3–5 and 12 points, but Southern Brave still finished sixth.
The win showed they could chase 159 against the first-place side; it could not recover the five earlier losses or reach the 20-point top-three cutoff.
A strong result and a successful season are different claims. The final match was meaningful evidence about performance, not retroactive qualification.
Myth versus reality
Does GMR's Hampshire ownership mean GMR holds 100% of Southern Brave?
No. The published Southern Brave TeamCo transaction assigns GMR Group a 49% franchise stake and the host side 51%.
GMR separately owns Hampshire Sport & Leisure Holdings, the operation behind Hampshire Cricket and Utilita Bowl. That wider corporate relationship does not turn the stated 49% TeamCo stake into a published 100% figure.
The page therefore distinguishes franchise share, host structure and venue ownership instead of collapsing three related layers into one claim.
Leader freshness
What changed in Southern Brave's leaders after the Trent Bridge double-header?
Laura Wolvaardt moved from 197 to 221 women's runs, while Tilly Corteen-Coleman moved from a shared 11-wicket lead to 13. Tristan Stubbs finished the men's group stage on 213 runs and Adil Rashid on 11 wickets.
Marcus Stoinis closed with 195 runs and 10 wickets, making him the clearest two-skill men's contributor without overtaking either specialist leader.
A pre-final snapshot would now misstate four leader cards. Live-season labels require recalculation from the completed scorecard, not merely changing an update date.
Knockout result
Why did the group-stage win over SunRisers not carry into the Eliminator?
Southern Brave won the group meeting by five wickets after bowling SunRisers out for 116 and reaching 117/5. In the Eliminator, that direction reversed: Brave made 114/7 and SunRisers reached 116/5 with 11 balls unused.
The knockout moved to The Kia Oval rather than repeating the Headingley setting. Brave began with a 41-run opening stand, but SunRisers restricted the middle overs before surviving a three-wicket burst from Issy Wong in the chase.
The two results show why a previous head-to-head is context rather than a knockout advantage. The group win helped explain the matchup; it did not carry points, runs or protection into the Eliminator.
2026 combined season record
Combined display only: Women finished the group stage 5–3 with 20 points, then lost the Eliminator; Men finished 3–5 with 12 points and missed the knockouts. Points apply to the group stage only, and the two records remain separate.
