Desert Vipers Squad, ILT20 Season 4 Results & Stats
Desert Vipers won their first ILT20 title after an 8–2 league stage and two playoff victories over MI Emirates. This page separates the ten-game table from the 12-match championship record, explains the Qualifier 1 route and Super Over win, tracks Sam Curran's captaincy after Lockie Ferguson's injury, and treats the final 23-player directory as selection scope rather than an appearance claim.

Team overview
Desert Vipers at a glance
Desert Vipers are a UAE-based ILT20 franchise owned by Lancer Capital. They have reached three finals in four seasons, finishing runner-up in 2023 and 2025 before winning their first title in Season 4.
The Vipers topped the Season 4 league table with eight wins, two losses, 16 points and a +0.438 net run rate. They then beat MI Emirates by 45 runs in Qualifier 1 and by 46 runs in the Dubai final, completing a ten-win, two-loss campaign.
Sam Curran captained in the injured Lockie Ferguson's absence, scored a league-high 397 runs, took seven wickets and won both the MVP and best-batter belts. David Payne and Khuzaima Tanveer each took 17 wickets.
League and playoff scopes
Why does the Desert Vipers title record contain 12 matches, not 10?
The ILT20 league table covers ten matches, where the Vipers finished first with eight wins, two losses, 16 points and a +0.438 net run rate. Two playoff wins then extended the completed campaign to 12 matches.
They beat second-placed MI Emirates by 45 runs in Qualifier 1 and advanced directly to the final. MI had to win Qualifier 2 to earn a rematch, which the Vipers won by 46 runs in Dubai.
Playoff results do not alter the league table or its 16 points. The accurate combined record is therefore ten wins and two losses overall, while the table remains 8–2.
Repeat-opponent reversal
How did the Vipers lose to MI Emirates and still beat them twice in the playoffs?
The teams split their two league meetings. Desert Vipers won by one run in Abu Dhabi on 9 December, then MI Emirates won by four wickets in Dubai on 21 December.
Neither league result carried into the knockout bracket. The Vipers made a season-high 233/1 to win Qualifier 1 by 45 runs, then posted 182/4 and dismissed MI for 136 in the final.
Across the full season, the head-to-head was three Vipers wins and one MI win. The two knockout victories mattered for progression and the title, while all four remain separate results.
Captaincy under injury
Who was the real Desert Vipers captain in Season 4?
Lockie Ferguson was the appointed captain and began the season in that role. A tournament-ending injury removed him from the later campaign, and Sam Curran led seven matches including Qualifier 1 and the final.
Both descriptions are therefore true but answer different questions: Ferguson was the designated season captain, while Curran was the on-field title-winning captain. Reducing the record to either name alone loses the handover context.
Curran's leadership coincided with 397 runs, seven wickets, ten catches and the official MVP and best-batter belts. Those awards establish performance, not a retroactive cancellation of Ferguson's appointment.
Selection versus appearances
Did every player in the final 23-player Vipers directory appear?
No. The final franchise directory is a roster and availability record, not a list of 23 season appearances. For example, Wanindu Hasaranga remained part of the squad context but was unable to feature because of Sri Lanka commitments.
The final list expanded beyond the 21-name pre-season announcement as wildcard and later personnel were incorporated. A player's directory presence can therefore establish selection status without proving an XI place or a full-season availability window.
Match appearances and statistical totals must come from completed scorecards. The squad grid preserves the official final directory while the leaders and results use only contributions recorded in those matches.
Tied innings, winning result
Why does the 179–179 Gulf Giants match count as a Vipers win?
The regulation innings were tied at 179, but ILT20 used a Super Over to decide the match. Desert Vipers scored 13/1 and restricted Gulf Giants to 9/0, winning the decider by four runs.
That makes the official outcome a Vipers win rather than a tie in the league table. It contributed two points to the 8–2 record and was the first Super Over in ILT20 history.
The results row keeps the regulation scores visible and labels the Super Over outcome. Recording only 179–179 would hide the result; recording only the decider would hide how the match reached it.
Maiden ILT20 champions
The published league table covers ten matches; Qualifier 1 and the final add two wins to the full 12-match championship record.
