Team overview
Delhi Capitals at a glance
Delhi Capitals is the Delhi-based men's franchise in the Indian Premier League. The franchise began as Delhi Daredevils in 2008 and adopted the Delhi Capitals name before the 2019 season.
DC finished sixth in IPL 2026 with seven wins and seven defeats from 14 league matches. The side collected 14 points with a net run rate of -0.651 and did not qualify for the playoffs.
The men's IPL side reached its first final in 2020 but has not yet won the competition. The Delhi Capitals brand also fields a separate women's team in the WPL; this page keeps the men's IPL squad and statistics separate from that roster.
The displayed directory is the completed-season group, including Rehan Ahmed as Ben Duckett's replacement. Delhi's 23 June trade bringing Rishabh Pant back and sending Kuldeep Yadav to Lucknow applies to the upcoming season, so it does not rewrite who represented DC in the completed 2026 campaign.
Did KL Rahul's 593 runs make Delhi Capitals a playoff side?
No. KL Rahul was Delhi Capitals' leading scorer with 593 runs, but DC finished sixth on 14 points and missed the playoffs. One elite individual aggregate cannot substitute for enough team wins.
Rahul's output remains a major season achievement. The useful distinction is between player performance and team qualification: Delhi went 7-7 even with the tournament's fifth-highest team scorer at the top of its batting list.
Did net run rate eliminate Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026?
No. Fourth-placed Rajasthan Royals finished on 16 points, two more than Delhi's 14. Net run rate did not need to break a tie for the final playoff place.
Delhi's -0.651 net run rate helps explain the scale of several defeats, but it was not the qualification tiebreaker. DC needed another win before net run rate could become relevant to a tie on points.
Was Arun Jaitley Stadium a home advantage for DC in 2026?
Not by results. Delhi Capitals won two of seven matches at Arun Jaitley Stadium and five of seven away from Delhi. The 2-5 home record was the reverse of the 5-2 away record.
DC beat Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals at home, but lost there to Gujarat, Punjab, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. Calling Delhi a home stronghold would contradict the completed season evidence.
Where did Delhi Capitals' 2026 season lose momentum?
DC opened 2-0, then went 2-7 across its next nine matches before closing with three straight wins. The middle stretch created a gap that the late recovery could not erase.
The final 40-run win at Kolkata made the finish look strong, and it was. But sequence matters: by then Delhi could reach only 14 points, while the last playoff place finished on 16.
What do DC's 264/2 and 75 all out reveal about the season?
They show extreme performance volatility at the same home ground. Delhi made 264/2 against Punjab on 25 April and still lost, then was dismissed for 75 by Bengaluru at Arun Jaitley Stadium two days later.
The advanced lesson is not that one innings predicts the next. It is that peak scoring and repeatable match control are different: DC could produce a huge total, fail to defend it, and then suffer its lowest score of the campaign within 48 hours.
