Team overview
SunRisers Leeds at a glance
SunRisers Leeds are the 2026 identity of the Headingley franchise previously called Northern Superchargers. The women's and men's sides have separate squads, standings and statistics but share one ownership operation and home ground.
SUN Group owns 100% of the franchise after acquiring both the ECB-offered stake and Yorkshire's host stake. The team joins the same cricket family as Sunrisers Hyderabad and Sunrisers Eastern Cape while retaining the Leeds base and the Superchargers' results history.
Both sides finished the 2026 group stage at 5–3 and 20 points. The women placed second with a +1.031 net run rate and face Southern Brave Women in the Eliminator; the men placed third at +0.603 and face second-placed Manchester Super Giants Men.
Separate competitions, separate qualification
Does SunRisers Leeds' combined record decide either playoff place?
No. The women and men each play an independent eight-match group stage, so their combined 10–6 record and 40 points are a franchise summary rather than a qualification table.
SunRisers Leeds Women finished second and SunRisers Leeds Men finished third. Each side qualified on its own record, and each enters a separate Eliminator at the Kia Oval on 14 August.
This distinction prevents a common team-hub error: adding women's and men's points can describe the shared brand, but it cannot move either side above a rival or create one combined playoff seed.
Same record, different seed
Why did identical 5–3 records place the women second and the men third?
The final tables separated tied teams by net run rate. The women matched Southern Brave on 20 points but held +1.031 against +0.107, so SunRisers took second place and the higher Eliminator seed.
The men also finished on 20 points, alongside Manchester Super Giants and MI London. Manchester's +0.791 led that tie, SunRisers followed at +0.603 and MI London missed the top three at +0.241.
Win-loss records alone therefore do not explain the playoff bracket. The official table's format-specific net run rates are retained rather than recalculated from an incomplete or mixed set of scorecards.
Manchester rematch reversal
What changed between SunRisers Leeds' two Manchester double-headers?
The first Headingley meeting split in the men's favour: SunRisers Women lost by four wickets, while SunRisers Men chased 182 in 88 balls to win by eight wickets.
At Emirates Old Trafford on 11 August, the outcomes flipped sharply. The women made 166/4 and won by 41 runs, but the men were dismissed for 127 before Manchester chased the target without losing a wicket.
Those opposite rematches also set the Eliminators. The women's recovery secured second place, while the men's ten-wicket defeat left Manchester above them on net run rate and created an immediate third meeting.
Myth versus one huge total
Did the men's 241/2 guarantee first place or the best playoff seed?
No. SunRisers Leeds Men made 241/2 against London Spirit and won by 37 runs, then added a 45-run win over Birmingham Phoenix and a 71-run win over Welsh Fire. They still finished third after losing three of eight matches.
A single exceptional total can lift net run rate, but standings reflect the whole league phase. The opening defeat to MI London, the five-run loss at Trent Bridge and the final ten-wicket defeat to Manchester all remained part of the calculation.
The practical reading is narrower: 241/2 was the side's highest group total, not proof of table leadership, a title or an automatic place in the final.
Name change and record continuity
Is SunRisers Leeds a new team with no Northern Superchargers history?
The SunRisers Leeds name is new for 2026, but the Headingley franchise slot continues the Northern Superchargers record from 2021 to 2025. That continuity includes the women's 2025 title and 2023 runners-up finish.
The ownership label is not retroactive. SUN Group completed 100% ownership for the rebranded operation, but earlier Superchargers seasons should not be described as seasons played under the SunRisers name or current ownership structure.
The page therefore keeps two facts together without merging them: 2026 is the first SunRisers Leeds season, while the sporting lineage and historical honours continue from the same Leeds-based Hundred franchise.
Both SunRisers Leeds sides qualify for the Eliminator
Combined display only: 16 group matches, 10 wins, six losses and 40 points. Separately, Women finished second at 5–3, +1.031 NRR and 20 points; Men finished third at 5–3, +0.603 NRR and 20 points. Qualification and net run rate remain separate by competition.
