Pretoria Capitals Team: Squad, Results, Stats & Schedule

Pretoria Capitals represent the Pretoria-Centurion market in SA20 and are owned by JSW Sports, the group behind the wider Capitals franchise family. The team has played only SA20, not a second league under the same Pretoria identity.

The Capitals topped the inaugural 2023 league table and reached the final, then missed the playoffs in both 2024 and 2025. A rebuilt squad, new Ganguly-Pollock coaching combination and Keshav Maharaj captaincy returned them to the final in Season 4.

They finished second in the 2026 league phase with five wins, four losses and one no-result, beat top-ranked Sunrisers Eastern Cape by seven wickets in Qualifier 1, and lost the Newlands final to the same opponent by six wickets. Their complete season record was six wins, five losses and one no-result from 12 matches.

Dewald Brevis led the team with 370 runs and 30 sixes; Sherfane Rutherford added 334 runs at a 165.35 strike rate. Maharaj led the bowling with 12 wickets at an economy of 6.54, while Bryce Parsons combined 150 runs and seven wickets, including 60 and 3/10 in Qualifier 1.

Season 5 planning is already public. Fourteen retained or pre-signed players are confirmed, the five remaining squad places go to the 7 October auction, and all ten league fixtures from 17 January to 14 February 2027 are listed below without guessing playoff qualification.

The 14 names are the retained and pre-signed core revealed before the 7 October 2026 auction. Five places remained open, so this is a dated squad stage rather than the completed Season 5 registration.

The larger Season 4 group is not carried forward automatically. Phil Salt and Matthew Short are current pre-signings, while a player who appeared in 2026 is not labelled current unless the Season 5 reveal includes him.

No. Pretoria won five of ten league matches, lost four and had one no-result. SA20 awards four points for a win, two for a no-result and one extra point for a qualifying bonus-point win.

The official table records two bonus points: 20 from five wins, two from the abandoned match and two bonuses make 24. The Qualifier 1 victory raised the full campaign to six wins but added no league-table points.

Only for one night. Sunrisers beat Pretoria in both league meetings, including a ten-wicket result at SuperSport Park; Pretoria then reversed the matchup by seven wickets in Qualifier 1.

The final swung back to Sunrisers, leaving Pretoria 1–3 against the champions across Season 4. A playoff upset secured a final place, but it did not erase the broader matchup disadvantage.

Dewald Brevis and Sherfane Rutherford added 103 for the sixth wicket after five wickets fell inside 4.5 overs. Brevis made 53 and Rutherford finished 74 not out as Pretoria recovered to 143/6.

The defence was as important as the rescue: Keshav Maharaj and Lizaad Williams took three wickets each, Joburg finished 122/8, and the 21-run win completed one of the season's clearest two-innings recoveries.

Brevis supplied 101 of Pretoria's 158 runs, a calculated 63.9% of the total. Only Bryce Parsons and Sherfane Rutherford also reached double figures, while Marco Jansen took 3/10.

Pretoria then reduced Sunrisers to 48/4, but Matthew Breetzke and Tristan Stubbs added an unbeaten 114 for the fifth wicket. Stubbs closed the chase with consecutive sixes, so an exceptional individual century still ended in a six-wicket defeat.
