Team overview
Mumbai Indians at a glance
Mumbai Indians is a Mumbai-based men's Twenty20 franchise owned by Indiawin Sports Private Limited. Founded in 2008, MI has won five Indian Premier League titles: 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. The wider MI family also fields teams in the Women's Premier League, SA20, ILT20, Major League Cricket and The Hundred, but this page's scores and statistics cover the men's IPL team.
MI finished ninth in IPL 2026 with four wins and ten losses from 14 matches, eight points and a net run rate of -0.584. Ryan Rickelton led the batting with 448 runs and Allah Ghazanfar topped the bowling list with 15 wickets.
Hardik Pandya captained the 2026 side and Mahela Jayawardene served as head coach. Four injury replacements changed the registered squad during the season, so the final active 25-player list below excludes the four players they replaced.
Did five IPL titles make Mumbai Indians a contender in 2026?
No. Mumbai Indians' five titles are historical honours, while the 2026 side finished ninth at 4-10. MI never won consecutive matches during the completed league campaign.
Both facts belong on the team page, but they answer different questions. Title history establishes franchise achievement; the current-season result sequence measures 2026 performance.
Why did MI finish above Lucknow with the same record?
Net run rate separated the two teams. MI and LSG both finished 4-10 on eight points, but Mumbai's -0.584 was higher than Lucknow's -0.740, placing MI ninth and LSG tenth.
This was a direct NRR tiebreak because their points and win-loss records matched. It did not put Mumbai near the playoffs; it only ordered the bottom two positions.
Was Wankhede Stadium a home advantage for MI in IPL 2026?
Not by the final record. Mumbai won two and lost five of seven matches at Wankhede, exactly matching its 2-5 record across seven fixtures away from home.
The home wins came against Kolkata and Lucknow. Bengaluru, Punjab, Chennai, Hyderabad and Rajasthan all beat MI at Wankhede, so historic venue reputation did not translate into a better 2026 conversion rate.
Does MI's final 25-player squad include every 2026 participant?
No. The final active directory excludes four injured players after their replacements were registered, but those outgoing players remain part of the season record if they appeared. Quinton de Kock, for example, scored 132 runs in three matches before Mahipal Lomror replaced him.
A final roster is a registration snapshot, not a complete appearance ledger. Removing replaced players from the active list must not erase their earlier scores or contributions.
What do MI's 99-run win and 103-run loss reveal?
They show how sharply performance could swing. MI beat Gujarat Titans by 99 runs on 20 April, then lost to Chennai Super Kings by 103 runs at Wankhede three days later.
The advanced lesson is that one dominant margin does not establish repeatable control. Mumbai's biggest win and heaviest defeat sat back-to-back, and the team finished with ten losses overall.
IPL 2026 finish
League stage complete; MI finished ninth, ahead of Lucknow Super Giants on net run rate.
