Joburg Super Kings 2027 Squad, Fixtures & 2026 Results

Joburg Super Kings are Johannesburg's men's franchise in SA20. The team was founded for the competition's 2023 launch and sits within the Super Kings franchise group, but its SA20 results are kept separate from Chennai Super Kings and Texas Super Kings.

JSK reached the playoffs in each of the first four SA20 seasons. Their best league-stage finish was second in 2023; across all league and playoff matches from 2023 through Season 4, they played 45, won 18, lost 21 and had six no-results, without yet reaching a final.

Season 4 ended in the Eliminator. JSK placed fourth in the league table at 4–4 with two no-results, 22 points and NRR +0.045, then lost to Paarl Royals by 36 runs. James Vince led their runs with 263, while Wiaan Mulder and Richard Gleeson shared the wicket lead with nine each.

It is a pre-auction core, not the finished squad. JSK retained or pre-signed 12 players and must add six more at the 7 October auction, including one Under-23 player.

The current group is Leus du Plooy, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, James Vince, Matthew de Villiers, Donovan Ferreira, Dian Forrester, Duan Jansen, Rilee Rossouw, Janco Smit, Prenelan Subrayen and Under-23 player Jarren Bacher.

Those six auction additions would take the roster to 18. The league announcement also leaves JSK an optional wildcard, which explains how the final squad can reach 19 without treating a vacant slot as a named player.

No current Season 5 source confirms that. Faf du Plessis is absent from the 12-player pre-auction core, and the official SA20 team page lists the 2027 captain as TBC.

That does not erase his first four seasons. Du Plessis captained JSK from the inaugural campaign through Season 4 and remains central to the franchise's completed record.

The page therefore separates past leadership from the open 2027 role. It will not infer a successor from seniority, wicketkeeping or franchise history before JSK or SA20 names one.

A third of the 18 standard places remain open: six auction picks are still required. That gives new head coach Albie Morkel meaningful room to reshape the group rather than simply inherit Season 4.

The current core already covers top-order batting, wicketkeeping, spin and seam-bowling all-rounders. However, a list of roles does not settle the final overseas balance, opening combination, pace depth or match XI.

The optional wildcard is another decision layer. Until the auction and any wildcard announcement are complete, tactical gaps should be described as recruitment questions, not solved with speculative selections.

A playoff streak shows consistency across league stages; it is not a title or final appearance. Keeping those achievements separate makes the four-season record more useful than a vague claim of repeated contention.

They are confirmed JSK home fixtures in the 2027 league schedule, but they are not evidence of a future playoff at the Wanderers. Playoff qualification and venue allocation are separate questions.

JSK host Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Durban's Super Giants, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals and MI Cape Town in Johannesburg. Their reverse or corresponding away fixtures span five other cities.

The useful distinction is simple: ten round-robin opponents, dates and venues are fixed; any knockout opponent remains conditional on the table. The page lists only the former.
