Team overview

Guyana Amazon Warriors at a glance

Guyana Amazon Warriors is a men's Twenty20 franchise representing Guyana. It has competed in every Caribbean Premier League season since the tournament began in 2013, reached eight CPL finals and won its first CPL title at Providence in 2023.

The Warriors enter CPL 2026 after three successive CPL finals: champions in 2023 and runners-up in 2024 and 2025. Imran Tahir, captain of the 2023 title side and one of five overseas names announced for 2026, is in the group, but the reviewed 2026 releases do not explicitly appoint the current captain or head coach.

GAW also represents the CPL in the separate Global Super League. It won that tournament in 2025 and retained the title on 1 August 2026 by defending 85 against San Francisco Unicorns. Those GSL results are acknowledged here but are not mixed into the CPL 2026 score and leader cards.

Roster conflict resolved

Why does this Guyana Amazon Warriors squad show 17 players instead of 20?

The official CPL draft named 12 West Indian players for Guyana, and the later overseas announcement added five. That produces a 17-player group supported by two dated, team-specific competition releases.

A match-centre extraction previously produced 20 names, but three additions fail the cross-check. The CPL draft assigns Keemo Paul and Jediah Blades to Jamaica Kingsmen, while Saim Ayub appears in neither of Guyana's two official 2026 squad announcements.

The page therefore follows the 12-plus-five evidence chain and excludes the three conflicting names. A dynamic match widget is useful for discovery, but it cannot overrule explicit team allocations when its output leaks players from the opponent roster.

Competition boundary

Does Guyana's 2026 Global Super League title count as a CPL result?

No. Guyana Amazon Warriors won the Global Super League final on 1 August, but CPL 2026 is a separate tournament with a separate squad state, schedule, table and leaderboards.

The GSL final remains a valid Warriors achievement: Guyana made 85 and dismissed San Francisco Unicorns for 79 to win by six runs. It does not create CPL runs, wickets, points or a completed CPL match.

This is why the honours and history sections record the GSL title while the CPL result table remains empty before the 13 August opener. Sharing a team name and home venue does not merge two competition records.

Myth versus reality

How can Guyana Amazon Warriors have eight CPL finals but only one title?

A final appearance is not a championship. Guyana reached the CPL final in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2023, 2024 and 2025, but won only the 2023 decider.

The recent sequence makes the distinction especially important: the Warriors won in 2023, then finished runners-up to Saint Lucia in 2024 and Trinbago Knight Riders in 2025. Those are three consecutive finals but one title.

The accurate honours line is therefore one CPL championship from eight final appearances. Counting every final as a trophy would turn seven runners-up finishes into titles the team did not win.

Schedule structure

Why do the Warriors play five consecutive home matches in CPL 2026?

The official schedule is organized in location-based legs rather than alternating home and away every round. Guyana's first four fixtures are away, followed by five consecutive league matches at Providence from 4 to 11 September.

The Warriors then travel to Barbados for their final league fixture on 13 September. Across the ten-match programme, that creates five Providence games and five away games, but in two heavily concentrated blocks.

The sequence may affect travel and preparation, yet the schedule alone does not prove a competitive advantage. The useful fact is the 4-away, 5-home, 1-away structure; performance claims must wait for completed CPL results.

Historical edge case

Did an unbeaten 2019 league stage make Guyana CPL champions?

No. Guyana completed the 2019 league stage unbeaten and reached the final, but Barbados Tridents won the decider. A perfect league phase secured Guyana's playoff route; it did not award the championship.

That season is a useful warning against blending stages. League records measure qualification performance, while the final is a separate knockout result with the title attached to it.

The 2019 row therefore remains a runners-up season despite the unbeaten league run. The same scope rule applies in 2026: schedule strength or league position cannot be converted into a title before the deciding matches are played.

Officially supported CPL 2026 group

Guyana Amazon Warriors 2026 squad

This 17-player group combines the 12 West Indian players confirmed in the official CPL draft release with the five-player overseas announcement. Keemo Paul and Jediah Blades are excluded because the same official draft placed them with Jamaica Kingsmen; Saim Ayub is also excluded because he is absent from both dated Guyana announcements. The earlier 20-name match-centre extraction is not treated as stronger than team-specific releases.
