Team overview
Gujarat Titans at a glance
Gujarat Titans is the Ahmedabad-based men's franchise in the Indian Premier League. The team entered the IPL in 2022, won the title in its first season and reached the final in three of its first five campaigns.
GT finished second in the 2026 league table with nine wins, five defeats, 18 points and a net run rate of +0.695. The side lost Qualifier 1 to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, beat Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 and finished runners-up after another defeat to RCB in the final.
Across the complete 2026 campaign, Gujarat played 17 matches, won 10 and lost seven. Shubman Gill led the run-scoring, Kagiso Rabada won the Purple Cap, and this page keeps the league-stage table record separate from the overall playoff-inclusive results.
Did finishing second in the league make Gujarat Titans the runners-up?
Not by itself. Gujarat Titans finished second in the 14-match league table, then became tournament runners-up only after reaching and losing the final. League position and final classification are separate achievements.
GT went 9-5 for 18 league points and 10-7 across all 17 matches. Keeping both scopes visible prevents the playoff defeats and Qualifier 2 win from being incorrectly added to the league table.
What did net run rate actually decide for GT in IPL 2026?
Net run rate separated three teams tied on 18 points. RCB ranked first at +0.783, Gujarat second at +0.695 and Hyderabad third at +0.524, so GT earned a top-two place and the second-chance Qualifier route.
All three teams had already reached the top four; NRR decided their order, not whether Gujarat qualified at all. The seeding mattered because GT remained alive after losing Qualifier 1.
Was every Ahmedabad match a Gujarat Titans home fixture?
No. GT went 5-2 across its seven league-stage home fixtures at Narendra Modi Stadium. The IPL final was also played in Ahmedabad, but it was a tournament final rather than an eighth league home fixture.
Including the final, Gujarat's record at the stadium was 5-3. The distinction matters because venue familiarity and official fixture classification answer different questions.
How did GT reach the final after a 92-run Qualifier 1 loss?
The top-two finish gave Gujarat a second chance. After RCB beat GT by 92 runs in Qualifier 1, Gujarat chased Rajasthan's 214/6 with 219/3 in Qualifier 2 to reach the final.
Shubman Gill made 104 from 53 balls in that seven-wicket recovery. A lower league seed would have entered the Eliminator path and received no comparable safety net after one defeat.
Why did GT's strong net run rate not protect it in the playoffs?
League net run rate determines table order, not knockout results. Gujarat's +0.695 was helped by league wins of 77, 82 and 89 runs, but each playoff was decided as a standalone match.
That is why a side could lose a league game by 99 runs, still finish second on NRR, then lose Qualifier 1 by 92 and remain alive only because of its seed. Aggregate strength creates the route; it does not carry runs into the next match.
IPL 2026 finish
Second in the league stage at 9–5; beat Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 before losing the final to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
