Team overview
Glasgow Cosmic at a glance
Glasgow Cosmic are one of six men's franchises in the inaugural European T20 Premier League. The official team page describes a partnership between Matthew Hayden and the Mugafi Group and identifies Tansha Batra as a co-owner.
Hayden is both co-owner and head coach. ETPL had not publicly named Glasgow's captain by the 17 August cutoff, so leadership comments about a player are not converted into a captaincy appointment.
The six confirmed draft selections comprise five Scotland players and one Netherlands player. Matthew Cross provides wicketkeeping, Brad Currie and Paul van Meekeren lead the specialist bowling group, and Michael Leask, Oliver Davidson and Chris McBride add multi-skill depth.
Glasgow open against Edinburgh Castle Rockers at VCC on 27 August. They play six times in Voorburg and four times in Malahide, facing every other franchise twice.
Leadership boundary
Who captains Glasgow Cosmic in ETPL 2026?
Glasgow Cosmic and ETPL had not publicly named the captain by 17 August 2026. Matthew Hayden is the head coach and co-owner, not the playing captain.
An official draft feature says George Munsey stepped up as a leader during recruitment and helped identify Scottish players. That describes a behind-the-scenes contribution; it is not a captaincy announcement.
The page will add a captain only when the league or franchise publishes that specific season role. A reputation for leadership, a national-team role or a welcome message is not enough.
Draft reconciliation
Did Glasgow draft five players or six?
Glasgow drafted six players. A short ETPL draft recap names the five Scottish selections, while the dedicated Glasgow profile also identifies Paul van Meekeren as the sixth pick.
The Scottish group is Brad Currie, Matthew Cross, Michael Leask, Oliver Davidson and Chris McBride. Van Meekeren is a Netherlands international and the only non-Scottish selection in the six-player draft group.
The two official articles describe different slices of the same event rather than conflicting final rosters. The dedicated player-by-player profile provides the complete Glasgow draft list.
Selection rules
What does Glasgow's local draft core mean for the playing XI?
Five Scotland draft picks give Glasgow a strong affiliated-local base, but they do not determine the final XI. ETPL matchday rules still require at least five local players and allow no more than four overseas players.
A full 17-player squad must contain five to seven overseas players, at least eight local players, at least two affiliated locals and both European and global Associate representation.
Van Meekeren counts within the wider local category under ETPL rules because the Netherlands is one of the three organising cricket nations. The unpublished roster and player availability still make a reliable first-XI prediction premature.
Venue reality
Why do Glasgow Cosmic have no 2026 match in Scotland?
ETPL Season One uses two centralized host grounds: VCC in Voorburg and Malahide Cricket Club Ground in Ireland.
Glasgow play their first six league fixtures in Voorburg and their last four in Malahide. The official schedule includes no Scottish venue despite the franchise representing Glasgow.
Their opener against Edinburgh is an all-Scottish franchise matchup staged in the Netherlands. Franchise identity, fixture designation and physical venue therefore need to remain separate.
Myth versus reality
Does a Glasgow squad report prove a player appeared for the team?
No. A draft pick confirms selection status; only a completed official scorecard establishes a Glasgow Cosmic appearance.
No ETPL match had been completed by the 17 August research cutoff. Glasgow therefore have no team result, points total, net run rate, run leader or wicket leader.
Withdrawals, replacements and playing-XI choices may still change. Those states require a dated announcement or final match record rather than inference from a roster graphic or third-party squad list.
Ten league fixtures confirmed
No Glasgow result or points-table row exists before the first match. First place advances directly to the final; second and third contest the qualifier.
