Team overview

Dublin Guardians at a glance

Dublin Guardians are one of six men's franchises in the inaugural European T20 Premier League. The franchise represents Dublin and Ireland in the cross-border competition created with Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association.

Ravichandran Ashwin is captain and mentor, while ETPL identifies Rahul Dravid as an owner or co-owner within the Indian consortium that acquired the franchise. Those are distinct roles: no first-party source had named Dravid or Ashwin as Dublin's head coach by the 16 August cutoff.

Dublin's six draft selections comprise four Ireland players, one Netherlands player and one Scotland player. The group includes two wicketkeeping options, seam and swing bowling, spin and several multi-skill players, but the unpublished remainder of the roster prevents a reliable first-XI prediction.

Dublin open against Belfast Wolves at VCC on 27 August. Their ten-match league schedule is split evenly between Voorburg and Malahide, with each of the other five franchises faced twice.

Leadership boundary

What are Ashwin and Dravid's Dublin Guardians roles?

Ravichandran Ashwin is the captain and mentor. Rahul Dravid is part of the ownership group; ETPL has not named either man as head coach.

ETPL's Ashwin feature explicitly says he wears two hats: captain and mentor. The ownership announcement describes Dravid as owner in its headline and co-owner in its body, while the current team page says an Indian consortium acquired the franchise.

Those first-party labels do not support silently adding a coaching title. The page will list a head coach only after Dublin Guardians or ETPL publishes a season-specific appointment.

Roster status

Why are only seven Dublin players shown?

Seven selections are confirmed in current first-party ETPL material, but the official team page has not published the complete 17-player roster.

Ashwin is the pre-signed captain and mentor. The draft then added Calitz, Dockrell, Hollard, Young, Croes and Greaves in six rounds.

Other reported lists add more names, but ETPL's own team page still says the squad is coming soon. A 17-player competition rule cannot be used to promote unconfirmed names into Dublin's official roster.

Selection rules

How do ETPL roster rules affect Dublin's playing XI?

A squad place does not guarantee selection. ETPL says every XI must contain at least five local players and no more than four overseas players.

The full 17-player squad must include five to seven overseas players, at least eight local players, at least two affiliated local players and both European and global Associate representation.

Dublin drafted four Ireland players plus Croes of the Netherlands and Greaves of Scotland. That gives the confirmed core useful local variety, but the missing ten roster places and matchday availability still make a first-XI forecast premature.

Venue reality

Are Dublin Guardians playing in Dublin in 2026?

Five Dublin league matches are at Malahide Cricket Club Ground in County Dublin. None is listed for a ground in Dublin city, and the other five are at VCC in Voorburg.

The competition moves from the Netherlands to Ireland after Dublin's first five fixtures. Malahide then hosts their remaining five league matches, including three consecutive home-designated fixtures.

The franchise city, county context and official venue label are related but not interchangeable. This page uses Malahide for the actual ground and Dublin for the represented franchise.

Myth versus reality

Does a Dublin squad listing prove a player has appeared?

No. A signing or draft selection confirms roster status; only a completed match record establishes an appearance for Dublin Guardians.

No ETPL match had been played by the 16 August research cutoff. Dublin therefore have no team run leader, wicket leader, points total, net run rate or completed result.

Availability, replacements and matchday combinations may still change. The page will update those states from dated first-party announcements and final scorecards rather than treating selection as participation.

Pre-signing plus official draft picks

Seven confirmed Dublin Guardians selections

Ravichandran Ashwin was announced as captain and mentor before the draft. Dublin then selected Benjamin Calitz, George Dockrell, Matthew Hollard, Craig Young, Noah Croes and Chris Greaves. ETPL's current team page still labels the complete squad as coming soon, so these seven names are confirmed selections rather than a claim that the 17-player roster is final or that anyone has appeared.
