Derbyshire Falcons 2026 Squad, Results & Blast Stats

Derbyshire Falcons are the men's limited-overs identity of Derbyshire County Cricket Club, a member-owned county club founded in 1870. The Falcons compete in the Vitality Blast alongside Derbyshire's County Championship and One-Day Cup programmes; the men's and women's Falcons records are kept separate here.

Derbyshire finished fifth in the six-team 2026 North Group with three wins, seven losses, two ties, 16 points and a +0.393 net run rate. They did not reach the knockout stage, but their aggregate of 2,286 runs for 84 wickets was stronger than their opponents' 2,236 for 90, underlining how several close finishes shaped the campaign.

Aneurin Donald captained and kept wicket in all 12 matches while scoring 489 runs at a strike rate above 230. Akif Javed led the attack with 18 wickets, and Martin Andersson produced a club-record 6/23 after making 57 in the same 85-run win at Leicestershire.

The 14 names announced for the Leicestershire finale were a match squad, not a complete register of everyone documented during Derbyshire's Blast season. A team page that copied only that last announcement would silently remove players used in earlier selections.

The 17-player grid takes the union of Derbyshire's official 2026 men's T20 squad announcements. Caleb Jewell, Mitch Wagstaff and Rory Haydon appeared in earlier official groups but not the final 14, so they remain in the season record.

This is a documented selection group rather than an appearance claim. Inclusion shows that the club named the player in a 2026 Blast squad; the completed scorecards, not a squad announcement, determine who actually played.

Twelve matches were Derbyshire's complete 2026 group programme, not a shortened season caused by rain. The ECB replaced the previous two-group, 14-match structure with three groups of six and reduced every county to 12 group fixtures.

Derbyshire played the other five North Group counties home and away for ten matches. Their two cross-group fixtures were away to Essex and at home to 2025 champions Somerset; both ended in defeat.

All 12 Derbyshire fixtures produced a result or a tie. The final ECB table records no no-results, so there is no abandoned match missing from the scores below.

The ECB's final 2026 table displays Derbyshire on 16 points. That total uses a doubled presentation: three wins at four points each plus two ties at two points each equals 16.

A separate ECB 2026 format explainer describes the traditional scale of two points for a win and one for a tie, which would express the same record as eight. The official pages therefore disagree on the displayed scale, even though one is exactly double the other.

The discrepancy does not change Derbyshire's position because every result is scaled equally. This page retains the final table's published 16 while showing the calculation, rather than mixing that total with the explainer's lower scale.

Season aggregates do not decide the table; match results do. Derbyshire scored 50 more runs and lost six fewer wickets than their opponents across the campaign, yet won only three of 12 matches.

Five of the seven defeats were by six runs or fewer, ten runs, or two wickets. The two clearer reverses came against Somerset by 27 runs and Essex by five wickets, and those cross-group losses returned no points.

The same high-scoring approach cut both ways: Derbyshire hit 91 sixes but conceded 110. Strong individual totals and a positive net run rate show competitiveness, not automatic qualification; the top two in the North Group advanced directly, while Derbyshire finished 14 points behind second-placed Yorkshire on the final table's scale.

Derbyshire's table position improved from ninth in the 2025 North Group to fifth in the smaller six-team 2026 group. That is a real placement change, but the raw positions are not directly comparable because the competition moved from 14 group matches to 12 and reorganized into three groups.

The Falcons won four of 14 in 2025, then three of 12 in 2026 while adding two ties. They also moved from a negative 2025 net run rate to +0.393, even though the 2026 points-scale display cannot be compared directly with the previous table without normalizing it.

The defensible conclusion is narrower than 'everything improved': Derbyshire became more competitive by margin and finished higher within the new structure, but they won one fewer match and missed the knockouts in both seasons. Format change makes table rank alone an incomplete trend measure.
