Team overview
Birmingham Phoenix at a glance
Birmingham Phoenix is a Birmingham-based Hundred franchise with separate women's and men's playing sides under one identity. Both compete in the 100-ball competition and share Edgbaston as their home ground.
The 2026 season is the franchise's first under its new TeamCo ownership. Warwickshire County Cricket Club holds 50.4%, affiliates of Knighthead Capital Management hold 48.4%, and footballer Jude Bellingham owns 1.2% after an April 2026 equity transaction.
Phoenix Women finished their 2026 group stage with two wins, five losses and one no-result, ending with a five-wicket chase against MI London. Phoenix Men won their 214/4 opener against Trent Rockets but lost the next seven matches to finish 1–7. Neither side qualified for the Eliminator.
Do Birmingham Phoenix Women and Men share one league record?
No. They share the Birmingham Phoenix name, venue, ownership and public channels, but compete in separate women's and men's tables. The combined 3–12–1 summary on this hub is only a franchise-level count, not an official standing.
Phoenix Women finished 2–5 with one no-result and 10 points. Phoenix Men finished 1–7 with four points. Combining those points would create a number that cannot qualify either side for anything.
Why does the active directory show 34 players when each side fields only 11?
The directory contains two active squads: 18 women and 16 men. A squad records eligible or retained players, while each scorecard identifies the XI that actually appeared in a match.
In-season replacements also make the final directory different from auction-day lists. The page labels every player by side and does not infer an appearance from roster membership.
Did the women's final win rescue their 2026 campaign?
It improved the final record but did not restore qualification. Phoenix Women chased 121 with six balls left against MI London to finish 2–5–1, after their 32-run loss to London Spirit had already left them outside the Eliminator race.
The useful distinction is between match momentum and table outcome. Ellyse Perry's unbeaten 62 supplied a strong finish, but late form could not reverse the points lost across the earlier group matches.
Why did the men's 214-run opener not predict the rest of the season?
The opening 10-run win was followed by seven straight defeats. Phoenix later made 162/4 and 155/7 in their final two games, but London Spirit chased the first with seven wickets in hand and MI London defended the second by two runs.
One high total can establish batting ceiling without proving repeatable control. Across an eight-match league, Phoenix could not turn their strongest batting displays into a second win.
What does Joe Clarke's 291-run season show about individual and team performance?
Joe Clarke led Phoenix Men with 291 runs, yet the side finished 1–7. His 73 at Lord's lifted Phoenix to 162/4, but London Spirit chased 166/3; in the final match he made one before a two-run defeat.
The advanced lesson is that run aggregate needs match context. A leading batter can raise a team's baseline while bowling, fielding, chase control and the distribution of runs across matches still determine results.
2026 combined franchise record
Combined display only: Women finished 2–5 with one no-result and 10 points; Men finished 1–7 with 4 points. Standings and points remain separate, and neither side qualified for the Eliminator.
