Team overview

Biratnagar Kings at a glance

Biratnagar Kings are a men's franchise representing Biratnagar and eastern Nepal in the Nepal Premier League. M.A.D. Dream Sports acquired the franchise before the inaugural 2024 season, and the official club identity describes the side as the Kings of the East.

The Kings transformed their 2024 sixth-place debut into a second-place league finish in 2025. They won five of seven round-robin matches, scored a season-high 220/6 in the opener against Pokhara Avengers and qualified for the playoffs with ten points and a +0.680 net run rate.

Their title challenge ended in the playoffs. Sudur Paschim Royals beat Biratnagar by 77 runs in Qualifier 1, and Lumbini Lions then won Qualifier 2 by 40 runs. Biratnagar's complete 2025 record was five wins and four losses across nine matches.

NPL 2026 recruitment explained

How was Biratnagar Kings' 14-player domestic group assembled?

Biratnagar retained six players before the NPL Season 3 auction: Sandeep Lamichhane, Lokesh Bam, Basir Ahamad, Narayan Joshi, Pratish GC and Subash Bhandari. CAN then used the auction, a post-auction wish list and one talent-hunt place per franchise to fill the expanded 14-player domestic quota.

The official club page shows the retained core rather than the whole domestic group. The later StatsNPL listing expands the group to 14 names, which the squad grid follows. The grid excludes overseas signings and replacements, and lists the 2026 head coach as TBC, until the club or CAN confirms them.

Kathmandu Post reported two Biratnagar auction outcomes: Rupesh Kumar Singh joined after bidding reached the Category A ceiling of NPR 1.5 million, while Sujan Thapaliya reached the Category C ceiling of NPR 425,000. These figures are auction prices, not player salaries or net-worth estimates.

League table versus playoff reality

Did second place make Biratnagar the 2025 NPL runners-up?

No. Biratnagar finished second in the seven-match league table, but that position gave them a place in Qualifier 1 rather than the runners-up title. They lost Qualifier 1 to Sudur Paschim Royals and Qualifier 2 to Lumbini Lions, who advanced to the final.

Biratnagar went 5–2 in the league phase and 0–2 in the playoffs, producing a complete season record of 5–4. The second-place label applies to the league table; it does not mean the Kings reached the final.

Biratnagar improved from sixth place and a 2–5 record in 2024 to a top-two league finish and Qualifier 2 appearance in 2025. The franchise has not yet reached or won an NPL final.

Myth versus one big total

Did Biratnagar's 220/6 opener define its 2025 batting?

No. The 220/6 against Pokhara was Biratnagar's season-high total, but the Kings were later dismissed for 78 in Qualifier 1 and 94 in Qualifier 2. One record-setting start did not describe the full campaign.

The opener produced a 53-run win and demonstrated the batting ceiling. Across the two playoffs, however, Biratnagar scored only 172 runs combined and lost by 77 and 40 runs.

The useful comparison is range, not a claim that one innings caused later results. Team totals moved from 220/6 at their best to consecutive sub-100 playoff scores under different match conditions.

Represented city versus match venue

Did Biratnagar Kings have a home-ground advantage in 2025?

Not in the usual venue sense. Biratnagar represented its city and Koshi Province, but all 32 NPL 2025 matches were staged at TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.

Every Biratnagar result on this page therefore lists the same tournament venue. Calling those fixtures matches in Biratnagar would confuse franchise identity with the ground where the games were played.

A future Biratnagar-based fixture could change that context, but it cannot be projected from the team's regional identity or an unconfirmed schedule card.

Two-season improvement measured

How much did Biratnagar improve from 2024 to 2025?

In the league stage, Biratnagar added three wins and six points: from 2-5 and four points in 2024 to 5-2 and ten points in 2025. The Kings moved from sixth to second before the playoffs.

That was a substantial regular-season improvement, but it did not deliver a final appearance. The 2025 side then went 0-2 in the playoffs and exited in Qualifier 2.

The correct progression is therefore better league conversion and a deeper playoff route, not a title or runners-up finish.

Second in league stage; Qualifier 2 finish

Biratnagar finished second in the seven-match league stage with five wins, two losses and ten points. Two playoff defeats left them one win short of the final; playoff matches do not alter the published league table.

Schedule status

Biratnagar Kings NPL 2026 schedule status

Biratnagar's domestic group is listed, but CAN had not published an opponent-by-opponent NPL Season 3 schedule with confirmed dates, start times and venues by 12 August 2026. The club page shows month-and-day fixture cards without a stated year, start time or matching CAN schedule, so they are not published here as confirmed fixtures.

Confirmed NPL 2026 domestic group

Biratnagar Kings 2026 domestic squad so far

This 14-player domestic group combines six retained players with eight later additions from the auction, wish-list and talent-hunt stages after CAN expanded the domestic quota from 12 to 14. The squad grid excludes overseas signings until the club or competition confirms them, so it does not represent the final full squad. Sandeep Lamichhane remains the listed captain.
